The format on Japanese camcorders is NTSC(The same as in the United States). Other regions such as Europe use PAL. This does not affect viewing on PCs and most TVs and DVDs can playback both NTSC and Pal. However, you probably will not be able to directly plug in your camcorder to a PAL TV set to view NTSC images. Some old TV sets will not support NTSC even in playback.
